Joe has been collecting Railwayana for nearly 40 years specialising in signalling related items. He spent 7 years as a Signalman with British Railways working traditional manual lever signal boxes before moving on to modern power boxes.

As a fully qualified engineer and a specialist in building and restoring all steam related railwayana and engines Joe is extremely passionate and always ensures top quality advice and restoration work on all our products.

VT2130. BR SC ENAMEL DOOR PLATE "TICKETS"

This fully flanged example is in very excellent condition with the exception of a chip on one end. we can restore this at extra cost if required. 

The plate has an excellent colour and shine.

VT1665A. LMS POWER INDICATOR FOR COLOUR LIGHT SIGNAL NO 20/21. EX LONG MEG BOX

A combined power on/off and bell indicator from Long Meg Sidings box on the Settle and Carlisle line. This example was to for the power supply on a colour light signal. If the power failed the bell would ring and show if the standby power was now in use.  All coils tested  on ohms meter and all working.

A fine complex instrument at a modest price.

LUKENHIEMER DISPLACEMENT STEAM CYLINDER OILER. STOCK CODE PR 045

This old Lukenhiemer steam cylinder displacement oil can be used on a number of steam engines from portables to rollers.

This item is complete except the two small cicular glass windows, probable available from boiler house supplies.

The overall height is 10" including the adaptor at the base, the diameter is 2 1/8" diameter.

HORNBY HST POWER AND DUMMY CAR SET "00" STOCK CODE PR 0045

Here we have the very popular HST which was introduced nearly 40 years ago. This set is a power car and dummy unit. good condition in working order.

GWR BRASS SIGNAL BOX PLUNGER. STOCK CODE PR 0046

A nice GWR brass plunger. These plungers were really electric switches which were mounted on the face of the block shelf usually above the lever it applied to.

The signalman would depress the button which in turn energized an electric lever lock, providing the interlocking was correct the lock would lift and allow the lever to be pulled.

This item is in good condition and has an Ivorine plate attached.

CLASS 47776 SPEEDOMETER. STOCK CODE PR049

Heres a chance to own a piece off this famous class of Brithish diesel locomotive traction.

This is a cab speedo form 47776. Not tested.

BR WR SIGNAL BOX DIAGRAM "PEMBREY" STOCK CODE VT 0355

Here we have the last diagram from Pembrey signal box on the line from Swansea heading west. The diagram has had many alterations over the years as the layout was rationalized. The diagram is in good condition and the colours bright.

GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY APPENDIX TO THE RULE BOOK. STOCK CODE PR 106

This is a 1936 GWR appendix to the rule book, packed with everything you need to know about working trains and railway working. This example is in fantastic condition with light service wear.

Here we have this great little publication, a 1950 rule book and included is a 1962 supplement.

London Midland and Scottish railway General appendix to the working timetables and sectional appendix. This is a western region version which covers Crewe and South thereof.

GWR SIGNAL LEVER "WORKMAN DISCONNECTED" BADGE. STOCK CODE PR604

Avery important piece of equipment is this, an enamel faced signalmans reminder appliance  "WORKMAN DISCONNECTED" which the signalman would place on a lever when S and T department were working on a equipment affected by the work. It would be an agreement with the Signal engineer and the signalman what would be affected and this device would be placed over the lever handle and an entry made in the train register and signed by both parties. A must for any signalling collector. This example in excellent ex box condition with service wear. 

A.E.SOMMERS AND CO (SCALES) LTD. COUNTER BALANCE SCALES. STOCK CODE PR606

Here we hav a set of counterbalance scale made by A.E.Sommers and Co ltd, London. Thses scales are in full working order and come with brass weights. A fine English item from a jewellery shop.

GWR BRISTOL SKITTLES LEAGUE CUP 1937-38. STOCK CODE PR607

Nice silver trophy cup for the Bristol skittles leaque runners up 1937-38. the base is made from Bacolite. Overall height about inches.

COPPER RAILWAY YARD GAS/OIL LAMP. STOCK CODE STA001

Possible GWR from a station or goods yard, this lamp is in great condition just requiring painting and mounting onto a suitable lamp post. The lamp can be converted to electric quite easily.

R.E.THOMPSON BACOLITE "SIGNAL SLOT REPEATER". STOCK VT 0281218

An  R.E.Thompson bacolite signal slot repeater, This instrument would indicate when the slot lever had worked the counter balance on a slotted stop/distant signal  worked by two signal boxes. Tested and working.

7 1/4" GAUGE 6100 ROYAL SCOT LIVE STEAM LOCOMOTIVE, STOCK CODE CK 001

THE OWNER OF THIS LOCOMOTIVE HAS ASKED US TO REDUCE THE PRICE .......A 7 1/4" gauge un-rebuilt Royal scot class locomotive number 6100 "ROYAL SCOT" built from Bassett Lowke castings. This model has been a regular performer at the Great  Cockrow Railway at Chertsey. He she would run all day and as here driver says "she steams like a witch" 

The loco has a copper boiler and is accompanied with previous certificates and hydraulic tests documents and is in full running order.

She will be supplied with a new boiler certificate and will be ready to use.

BRITISH RAILWAYS MIDLAND REGION GROUND SIGNAL, STOCK CODE VT0349

This ex LMR cast iron ground disc is just waiting to live in your garden.

It is complete with lamp and lenses intact. This example is also fitted with a detector to show its present in the signalbox.

This is a heavy item but will easliy load into a hatchback or estate car, full assistance will be given.

GREAT NORTHERN RAILWAY SIGNAL BOX FOOT PLUNGER

A sturdy Great Northern Railway floor mounted signal foot plunger.

This device would be mounted near the sweeps of the lever frame in front of the lever which it locked.

When the signalman need to operate the lever he would put his foot on and depress the brass button. this would operate the electro-mechanicial lock on the downstairs on the lever frame.

This example is in fantastic condition and has many more years life left in it.

Early mahogany base double pole switch from a telephone system,

This beautifully made instrument is from around the 1930s complete with brass fittings and would have been used for switching telephone circuits in a signal box or similar.

Complete with Ivorine labels.

GABRIELLE ORIGINAL 1970s PADDINGTON BEAR PR001

A nice original 1970s Gabrielle Designs made Paddington Bear.  

Everything on this bear is authentic right down to the Dunlop boots!

The overcoat has a few holes here and there but nothing to detract from this cuddly Bear.

BRITISH RAILWAYS WESTERN REGION SIGNAL BOX DOOR KEY

A  standard British Railways Western Region signal box door key, exactly the same as a GWR key in size and configuration.

 A choice of 2 keys are avaible and both BR W.

Made from steel and plated, some of the plating has worn away.

FLYING SCOTSMAN FRAMED POSTER

A striking poster of the worlds most famous steam locomotive and train proffesionally mounted in this handsome frame.

The size of the poster is approx 33 inches by 24 inches not including the frame.

The colours are strong and vibrant and this would look great in any railway room or cafe/ wine bar.

CAST IRON FINIAL

Here we have this fine looking cast iron finial in a fantastic as removed patina.

I am not sure what this has come from but is most likely a Tram, street lighting or telegraph pole.

The base spigot will slide into a 5" nominal bore tube.

VINTAGE ROAD VEHICLE OIL REAR LAMP. STOCK CODE PR0029

This oil lamp is one of a pair we're selling. Apart from some age related rust its in fantastic condition and ready to use.

It has a Crown mark on it so presumably this company manufactured for H.R.H. Queen Elizabeth.

Look great in use on a steam roller of vintage lorry.

Everything complete and just needs oil.

PADDINGTON BEAR BY GABRIELLE DESIGNS..VTPR003

Nice orignal condition Gabrielle Designs paddington Bear  wearing blue overcoat, red Dunlopo size 5 wellies and a sporting light blue hat.

Label is present on back of neck and dated 1972.

No moth holes in clothing.

G.W.R. SIGNAL LEVER DESCRIPTION BRASS LABLE PLATE. STOCK PROO40

This is rare survivor from the early GWR stud and double twist frame days.

These frames had centers of 5 1/4" between each lever with a wooden label board running the length of the frame supported on short ornate cast iron pillars.

To these boards were screwed a length of brass about 6 to 8 feet in length which was beautifully hand engraved all the information about the levers function. 

Numbers of the levers were on plates affixed to the levers.

When they developed the 4" center frames it was too difficult for the signalman to see the backplates clearly so this system was abandoned

EX GWR SWINDON WORKS STEAM HAMMERS "F" SHOP PRESSURE GAUGE. STOCK CODE PR 04199

A rare oppertuinity to own an item from  the former Great Western Railways  Swindon works. Removed from the main steam delivery pipe high up in the Steam Forge hammers shop long after in 1986 when the works were being stripped out.  This gauge would show the steam pressure at any time. This item is well marked and stamped GWR, The shut off cock is in full working order and this item could easily be re-used on a portable steam engine or steam roller; The steam supply cock is threaded 3/3" BSP and the dial is just over  4" diameter on the bezzel. there rear flange makes about 5".

VT2061. "W.D" PIECRUST 3 ASPECT HANDAMP BY WAKEFIELDS OF BIRMINGHAM 1945

These War Department "piecrust" handlamp  were used by many railway staff during WW2 . This example has a really well used look and great patina. The lamp is complete with vessel,vessel and burner.. both red and green shades are in excellent condition and outer case has makers label and dated 1945.

TP0420. CARRIAGE PRINT OF CONNISTON WATER,LAKE DISTRICT BY FRANK SHERWIN.

I bought this lovely carriage print as it reminded me of lovely holidays in this beautiful, The artist has captured the tranquility of Conniston water and one can can hear the water gentl lapping against the small boat. This print is in great condition as is the frame.  The  board on the back has been replaced with hardboard  but keep the print against the glass well. 

In lovely condition and measures 26 1/2" X  11 1/4" approx.

VT2021. 3 GAUGES FROM BRITISH RAILWAYS 08 SHUNTER 08544.

This sale is for all three gauges as it would be nice to keep them together. Large Ammeter measures  8 1/4" diameter and two smaller gauges measure 5 1/4" square. 

VT1890. L.M.S. HAWKS EYE STATION SIGN "PREES"

This cast aluminum sign is in face restored condition with the back in original ex railway condition. The blind tapped hole have been drilled through at some stage probably to enable wall mounting. Thes have since been face filled.

In ex locomotive condition although the small pad on the oil plunger is missing , the plunger still operates.

VT 1776 - CAST IRON CALEDONIAN RAILWAY CARLISLE MILE MARKER

Caledonian railway cast iron mile marker, 157 miles.

This signa has had face restoration but otherwise in original condition.

This Steven's finial was used by several companies, mainly Caledonian and North British Railway companies. This items is in restored condition.

This half flanged  has received restoration to several face chips and the work has been carried out well. The totem has a lovely colour and nice shine.

We don`t know what type of locomotive this handle came from but we believe its and industrial and possible a narrow gauge locomotive. This item has been cleaned and primed ready for final restoration.

VT 1995 - LEVER DESCRIPTION PLATES & BACKING PLATE DITTON NUMBER 1

Here is a selection of lever plates and a trafolite backing plate from Ditton Junction number 1 signal box.Closure of the signal box, along with Ditton Junction No2 signal box came on 10th December 2000 when signalling passed to a new Ditton signal box which was commissioned the following day

This Distant signal repeater is a production by the GNRly Telegraph dept and is stamped in wood base "GNR TELE 679. This instrument has its original un-restored patina and is in full working order.

VT1903. SINGLE LINE STAFF "CAVAN-CROSSDONEY JUNCTION"

This staff is of the triangular section with lovely cast raised name in good old brass. This item has a great patina in is in oirginal ex railway service condition. This staff measures 26" long.

VT1952. SINGLE LINE KEY "MACHYNLLETH-CEMMES ROAD"

This key has been repainted and cleaned making it very presentable. This is also a first generation example rather  than a later re-engraved key. This is a "C"  pattern key.

VT 1929 - UPPER QUADRANT SIGNAL LENS GREEN

The green light is usually produced through the use of a blue spectacle lens, which produces green when lit from behind by the yellowish flame from a paraffin lamp.

VT 1927 - UPPER QUADRANT SIGNAL LENS RED

VTJW101. BR S ENAMEL TOTEM SIGN "HITHER GREEN"

Hither Green is a railway station located in Hither Green in the London Borough of Lewisham, south-east London. This example is fully flanged and has a great shine and bright colour. The right hand end has a well executed repair down the second "E". This location has a large locomotive depot and of course notable for the tragic accident of 1967.

A very nice totem which has not appeared in auction since 2016 !

A fine half flanged  example from this location. Derby Road railway station lies in Ipswich's district of Rose Hill just a mile east of the city centre along the Felixstowe Branch Line.a couple minor well executed repairs carried out in our workshops, the totem has a great shine and fantastic blue colour.

VT1893. L.M.S. STANNIER BLACK FIVE EX 45471 HOOTER WHISTLE.

An ex locomotive condition Stannier Hooter whistle from 45471. This locomotive entered  service in December 1938 and was sadly scrapped  in October 1965 when the whistle removed .  

A nice large whistle with is totally ex loco condition and evens smells of locomotive!

VT1X11. CAST IRON GWR SIGNALMANS LEVER COLLAR.

Commonly referred to as a lever collar this device was used as a reminder to the signalman and prevent the lever catch handle being operated. This would be used in example where a train was standing at the home signal and where no track circuit is provided. Also great as an egg cup!

VT1845. GREAT NORTHERN RAILWAY L.N.E.R. PIECRUST HANDLAMP.

This hand lamp is a marriage of an earlier G.N.R top stamped G.N.R and dated 1907 and an L.N.E.R case. Lamps were often repaired like this if damaged . The lamp top revolves easily and fit correct. The front slide out burner is stamped LNER .

VT 1808 - LNER 2573 LOCOMOTIVE FRAMED PICTURE

This beautiful image is of the 2573 Harvester locomotive, published by The Railway Magazine.

 

The image includes all the details of the loco.

It Measures 52 x 30 cm roughly

2 FOOT GAUGE "DINOWIC" PETROL MECHANICAL LISTER TYPE LOCOMOTIVE

This locomotive was designed by Dan Nemeth of Joe Nemeth Engineering Ltd over a number of years. Its a robust design using a 1939 vintage re-conditioned Lister G2 petrol engine with mechanicial cone clutch transmitting its chain cdrive to both axles via a Hudson Hunslet 2 speed reversing gearbox. Being of a new construnction every this is in tip top condition with no worn out parts! Its travelled to several 2 foot line in Britian including Statfold Barn railway and Amberley chalk pits museum.

VT 1012. MIDLAND RAILWAY TAPPER BLOCK BELL DATED 1892.

A very early example of this companies block bells, stamped M.R.Co in 2 places and 1892 on the rear of the case making it 108 years old ! The coils have been resistance tested and match the original test label. 

Original and complete with a lovely patina.

A must for any signalling collector. This example in excellent ex box condition with service wear. The Enamel is in ex railway condition.

VT1664. LMS POWER INDICATOR FOR COLOUR LIGHT SIGNAL NO 23

A combined power on/off and bell indicator. This example was to for the power supply on a colour light signal. If the power failed the bell would ring and show if the standby power was now in use.  All coils tested  on ohms meter and all working.

A lovely item and in ex signalbox condition.

VT 1774 - BR NER CAST IRON LEVER PLATE

This distant lever is a rare survivor of the mid 20's railway with its original green paint, which was later changed to yellow on the NER. 

As you can see it has raised letering, all in good ex box condition

VT1728. 1913 VINTAGE MIDLAND RAILWAY ROTARY BLOCK INDICATOR

A fantastic example of the Midland Railway Rotary "lock and Block" indicator. Stamped MR co and LMS and dated 1913,  this instrument this is a is complete with a linemans key . The condition and patina is superb!

This is a beautiful and loud example of a circa 1900's railway policeman's whistle.

The whislte is in lovely condition and includes the GWR 161 stamp

VT 1406 GWR DOUBLE SPAGNOLETTI BLOCK INSTRUMENT

This GWR double line block instrument is offered with straight moulding being the later pattern. The front slide mountings are correct being the cast 'all in one' variety with flags and coils tested at 90 ohms. A very nice collectors piece or use again in a heritage signal box or museum display.

A very nice split cased G C Rly tapper block bell retaining its original label "WEIGH OFFICE". The coils have been tested at 30 ohms.

Eagle Airways uniform cap badge. Rare genuine used for purpose badge of this short lived airline. This airline also had a brief business partnership with Cunard.

PS1912191. GWR 20 LEVER SIGNAL BOX LEVER FRAME.

The picture is the  other half of the frame built up. This frame is dismantled and has been shot blasted and primed ready for assembly. There is locking materials for GWR 5 bar VT including locking trays, cam boxes, drive plates and adjusters and much much more. This frame when working was converted from double twist to 5 var VT on 5 1/4"  centers. If you would like any more information please contact us. PS1912192. 20 LEVER SAXBY AND FARMER SIGNAL LEVER FRAME.

This is a very early example and originally was fitted with the companies rocker type interlocking. The frame was later converted to direct tappet locking. The frame is complete and is still bolted to part of its original wooden truss, The huge casting for the gate wheel is still bolted to the frame. A great oppertuinity to build your own signalbox. TRANSPORT IS CHARGED EXTRA AT COST, PLEASE ENQUIRE.

Lovely old pattern bell with nice patina, working condition. Retaining lots of its original fitting including brass bobbin line relay coils and brass flat head side screws. A rare find!

GWR SIGNAL BOX TRAIN REGISTER FROM "LITTLE MILL JUNCTION" STOCK CODE VT 0900

This is an amazing find. As an ex BR signalman I worked Little Mill in the early 1990s. This box os on the North and West line from Newport to Crewe and is approx 5 miles on the Newport side of Abergavenny box which I also worked.  This register although not in the best of condition is iver 127 years old! Many of the pages are fragile and damaged on the edges , the front cover is missing but all the entries are very readable.

A BR WR small enamel station booking office enamel sign. These plates were usually fixed near the ticket window regarding company bye-laws. Near mint condition with just one  tiny chip in the bottom right hand corner. Measures 6" X 4".

VT1481. TAFF VALE RAILWAY Co SIGNAL LEVER COLLAR.

A rare Taff Vale Railway Company signal lever collar otherwise reminder appliance. This small cast iron item would be placed over the signal lever as a physical reminder to the signalman and prevents the signal lever being operated. An example would be if a train was waiting the home signal.  

Lovely condition and measures 4 1/2" diameter.
